Director of Operations, Romberg Tiburon Center

This position is an Administrator II in the California State University Management Personnel Plan (MPP), reporting to the Director of the Romberg Tiburon Center.

Romberg Tiburon Center, College of Science and Engineering - The Romberg Tiburon Center (RTC) is San Francisco State University's (SFSU) Environmental Field Station.  RTC's mission is to advance understanding of the world's complex marine and estuarine environments through research, education, and outreach, with a focus on San Francisco Bay.  Approximately 100 personnel, representing students, faculty, staff and the employees of three tenant organizations are on site daily.  In addition, during the academic year over 50 additional students may be on site, the Center's 35 acres are situated on the north coast of the Tiburon Peninsula in Marin County and occupy buildings from the former "Navy Net Depot."  RTC operates in a semi-autonomous manner since it is located 22 miles from the main campus.
Anticipated Hiring Range
$60,000 - $80,000 / Annual; Salary commensurate with experience.

Position Summary
The Director of Operations manages and directs the operational, non-academic staff at the Center.  Responsibilities encompass all aspects of the administrative and facility functions, primarily through oversight of the day-to-day operational needs.  Additional responsibilities include assistance with long-term strategic planning.  This position reports directly to the Romberg Tiburon Center (RTC) Director.
Minimum Qualifications
University degree; minimum of seven to ten years work experience in management to include conflict resolution and supervision of a technical staff; demonstrate team building and leadership qualifications; must be computer/network literate; superior critical thinking skills; ability to analyze, prioritize, and respond appropriately to a complex mix of scientific, technical and management needs; superior interpersonal and negotiation skills to maintain the cooperation and support from within the center and from the administrative functions on the main campus.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in public or educational management of science/laboratory facilities; experience in project management or construction and maintenance is highly desirable.
Environmental, Phys, Spec
The ability to move and carry weights up to 25 pounds; frequent use of stairs; ability to work occasional evenings and weekends; possess a valid Drivers License and comply with the Defensive Driver Training requirements.
