With representatives from multiple disciplines, RTC is truly an interdisciplinary research and learning environment.

• RTC faculty span two colleges and four academic departments; Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Geography and Human Environmental Studies, and Geosciences. Research takes place on San Francisco Bay, the California Coast, and to field sites as far as the equatorial Pacific and Antarctica. 
• Collaboration among individual researchers and between interdisciplinary groups is very important to RTC's researchers, as is collaboration with investigators from outside universities and agencies.
