  • How do big rain storms affect native oysters?

The data show qualitative measurements, on a scale of 1 to 10, of the amount of algae in each tank over time. Tanks A & B contained water of higher salinity than Tanks C & D. Oysters in Tank A filtered the algae from the water, but oysters in Tank C did not. This is similar to what happened during the wet winter of 2011, when there was a large die-off of oysters that did not feed in the low salinity water.

The San Francisco Bay population of native oysters had not recovered before the record wet winter of 2016-17.
