Four Romberg Tiburon
Center graduate students received Master of Science degrees
at RTC’s annual graduation ceremony May 24th. The
ceremony was highlighted by remarks from the RTC Director
Toby Garfield and RTC Board Member, Col John Kern, US Army
ret, and the first presentation of the William Atchley Environmental
Service Award. RTC is pleased to establish the Environmental
Service award in honor of William Atchley, RTC Board Member
and former Chair, to be presented to the RTC student whose
Masters research promotes conservation, preservation and
restoration of our marine and estuarine environments. The
first recipient of this award is Joelle Tirindelli for her
research on genetic markers of fish immune systems to investigate
adaptations in polluted environments. The graduates, listed
with their advisor and awards are:
Maureen Auro (Bill Cochlan) - Graduate Student Award for
Distinguished Achievement 2007, Maxwell Scholarship 2006-07,
SF Bay Scholarship 2004, 2005, 2006, IRA Supply Scholarship
2005-2006.
Anya Perron-Burdick (Kathy Boyer) - Graduate Student Award
for Distinguished Achievement 2007, 2006 NSF GK12 Fellowship.
Joelle Tirindelli (Sarah Cohen) - 2007 William Atchley Environmental
Service Award, 2006 NSF GK12 Fellowship, IRA Supply Scholarship
