About COAST

The CSU Council on Ocean Affairs, Science and Technology (COAST) is in the early stages of development. The goal of COAST is to focus CSU system-wide resources and promote interdisciplinary multi-campus collaborations to advance our knowledge of California’s natural coastal and marine resources and the processes that affect them. An initial meeting to lay the foundation for COAST was held February 22, 2008 at the Chancellor's Office in Long Beach with faculty and administrative representatives from 21 of the 23 CSU campuses and the Chancellor's Office in attendance.

Draft Mission Statement

The mission of COAST is to provide vision, leadership, and support throughout the CSU system for education, policy and research related to California’s marine, estuarine, and coastal regions, and to promote the dissemination of knowledge gained to the greater public thereby promoting stewardship and ensuring future sustainable use of California’s coast.
