RTC Community
RTC is a community of over 100 faculty, staff, students and volunteers, all invested in the Center's success as a teaching research institution. The administrative and facilities staff support the scientific group and the students.
RTC's Core Scientific Group
- The Director,
- 8 tenured or tenure-track faculty,
- 6 research faculty,
- 6 postdoctoral associates,
- 2 visiting scientists, and
- 13 research technicians.
Also critical to the science taking place at the Center are 35 graduate students, as well as undergraduate students, high school students/interns, and lab volunteers.
RTC's Extended Community
Our campus is home to members of SF State's Ceramics Department and Graduate Art Program. The San Francisco Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve has its headquarters on site, and runs its monitoring and Coastal Decision Maker programs
The Marine Invasions Research Lab of the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center (SERC) is located on the property. San Francisco Bay is heavily impacted by invasive species, and RTC's location allows easy access to SERC's field sites in the north, central and south bays.
Additionally, Taxon Biosciences shares our interest in the sciences, and performs research at the center.
The presence of multiple federal and private research groups on site greatly augments the science and the educational experience at RTC. All groups collaborate; from RTC's Discovery Day open house, to joint research projects and adjunct faculty status and mentoring of RTC students.
